The American Astronomical Society (AAS), established 1899, is the major organization of professional astronomers in North America. The basic objective of the AAS is to promote the advancement of astronomy and closely related branches of science. The membership (~6,500) also includes physicists, mathematicians, geologists, engineers and others whose research interests lie within the broad spectrum of subjects now comprising contemporary astronomy.

Beginning in November 2008, new submissions to AER are being handled by the AAS. When you are ready to submit a new paper, send an email message, with the manuscript attached, to aer@aas.org. Correspondence about manuscripts submitted before 1 November 2008 should continue to go to aer@noao.edu.

2009 Is the International Year of Astronomy

The 62nd General Assembly of the United Nations has designated 2009 as the International Year of Astronomy. Working with the IAU, ASP, AAVSO, Astronomical League, IDA and other astronomy partners, the AAS will help organize and carry out a dynamic program of activities for the International Year of Astronomy.
